Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Brazil on Saturday, marking the fourth stop of his five-nation tour, where he will participate in the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
At the Summit, PM Modi is expected to engage in discussions with fellow BRICS leaders on major global challenges, including peace and security, multilateral cooperation, climate action, responsible use of artificial intelligence, global health, and economic and financial issues. He is also slated to hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event.
Before heading to Rio, PM Modi will travel to Brasília for a state visit, where he will meet Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The two leaders will explore avenues to strengthen the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership across diverse sectors such as trade, defence, energy, agriculture, space, health, technology, and cultural ties.
Reflecting on his Argentina visit, PM Modi called it “productive” and expressed optimism about the future of India-Argentina relations.
“My visit to Argentina has been a productive one. I am confident that our discussions will add significant momentum to our bilateral friendship and fulfil the strong potential that exists. I thank President Milei, the Government, and the people of Argentina for their warmth,” PM Modi shared on X.
He also noted that both sides explored ways to deepen cooperation in sectors such as trade, agriculture, defence, energy, pharmaceuticals, and sports.
During his stay in Buenos Aires, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore.
Following his visit to Brazil, PM Modi will conclude his tour with a trip to Namibia on July 9, where he is scheduled to address the country’s Parliament.
